Maritime Security Capacity Building

As a Japan Foundation Indo-Pacific Partnership Program Fellow, I conducted a project about maritime security capacity-building acitvities in the Indo-Pacific region. This research marries my interest in internationalization and education policy & practice with maritime security with the aim of improving the organizational efficiency of capacity-building endeavors. This project led to the following publications:
India has laid the foundations for important initiatives to lead the next steps in maritime security cooperation across the Indo-Pacific. At this time of high risk and great need, such expansion of India’s leadership would be very positive for the region’s maritime domain. The extent of the financial and political backing applied will make all the difference.

Various challenges create inefficiencies and hinder the successful operationalisation of maritime capability-enhancement activities. The training and education aspects of these activities can be enhanced to make them more effective at the interface between policy and practice. This commentary focuses on how the Quad can better achieve its stated goals in this area.

I work with Oxford EMI to help higher education institutions to successfully implement English-medium instruction programs. Oxford EMI provides teacher professional development courses which equip lecturers in all subjects with practical skills and techniques to teach their international classes in English. Courses are available face-to-face, online, or via self-access.
I have been active in several professional organizations and co-founded ICLHE East Asia Regional Group (Integrating Content and Language in Higher Education). I have served as a board member of the ICLHE Association and have also been Co-Chair of NAFSA's (Association of International Educators) Japan Special Interest Group and Chair of the Intercultural Communication Special Interest Group of TESOL International.
